Best Road Cycling Events in Colorado 2022

Strambecco rates the top road cycling events in the Rocky Mountains for 2022 based on a variety of factors including reputation, route quality, location, rider feedback, and the overall uniqueness of the event or race. Colorado terrain features of Strambecco’s best list include tall peaks, long high alpine climbs, canyons, basins and valleys, and forested regions. Naturally you can expect lot’s of elevation gain along with events that take place at high base elevations. Pay special attention to those events that take place at or above 7,000 feet of elevation which warrants more specialized training at altitude and/or with acclimation time. You can also expect less predictable weather conditions in mountain events including wind, thunder storms, and large temperature variations during the day.
If we had to pick the best of the best, or those you might classify as bucket list events, we’d recommend the Triple Bypass Gran Fondo and the Mt. Evans Hill Climb, two of the longest running and iconic events in America, let alone Colorado. We’d also call out Elephant Rock We also find a strong correlation between the best events and professional event producers. In the Rockies, premiere event producers include Outside Events, Team Evergreen Cycling, and the Gran Fondo National Series
