Jensie Gran Fondo
September 18
$65 – $175
Former UCI Pro Yens Voigt is teaming with the Gran Fondo National Series to produce the annual Jensie Gran Fondo. The event returns to Novato, CA for a start/finish at Stafford Lake Park and the world class cycling terrain of Marin County.
The long course (98 Miles; 8,000 ft elevation) is called the “Shut Up Legs” route for a reason. Other routes include the “Presidential” (69 Miles; +4,300 ft elevation gain) and “The Break Away” (42 Miles; +2,300 ft elevation). Beware that climbs on the Jensie Gran routes can be long at 30-60 minutes with fairly steep grades that pitch to 10%+ degrees in sections.
It can be hard to believe such quiet and scenic roads can be found so close to one of the world’s most influential cities. For travelers, complete your weekend with a trip over the Golden Gate Bridge, a visit to Alcatraz, or some of San Francisco’s famous museums and world-renowned restaurants. For the large local cycling community, it’s a chance to enjoy a new route or revisit a classic, with full course support.
The GFNS event series was established in 2012 and comprises 12 European-style ride/races staged in the United States. Every GFNS event offers courses covering 30, 60 and 100-mile journeys through some of the most beautiful and challenging terrain in endurance sports. Timed sections allow riders to compete in specific segments of the course, while casual cyclists can ride at their own pace. Participants can ride as individuals or on teams. GFNS awards special prizes to the top riders in every age and gender category. Each rider is assigned an electronic timing-chip to keep track of their progress throughout the course and to allow riders to compete for best time through highlighted sections.
For the most dedicated athletes who participate in at least 3 events, GFNS offers the chance to win a National series championship based on your performance in the cumulative events. The competition spans all rider categories.
