Phil Gaimon is a retired professional cyclist who last rode for the UCI World Tour team Cannondale-Drapac.  As a pro, whenever he mentioned he lived in Los Angeles he was asked how he could train in a town with so much urban sprawl and traffic.  Phil’s Cookie Fondo answers that question with a route that shows off the world class riding available in the area.  If you are wondering where the “Cookie” fits into the equation, Phil’s nickname on the pro tour was “Cookie Monster” which doesn’t take a big imagination to know why.  Expect liberal handouts at the top of every climb!

The event spans two days with 2 ride options on Saturday Oct 24 (40 & 54 Mile options) and 4 ride options on Sunday October 25 (32, 50, 85 & 110 Mile Options).  The Chocolate chip is the most popular ride at 85 Miles, 4 Climbs, and 8,800 feet of elevation gain.  The Double Fudge takes it to another level at 110 Miles and 11,800 feet of elevation gain.  What’s special about the routing of all the routes is the mix of coast terrain on the iconic Highway 1 mixed with the Santa Monica Mountain terrain.

Overall, the event is known for great route(s), challenging terrain, great food including lots of cookies and, and great California vibe.  Registration fee’s range from $139 (Sun Only) to $199 (Two Day Fondo Package).  There is also a VIP Package ($499) that includes a VIP Dinner and Events with the pro’s, a full custom cookie kit, exclusive swag and all access for the full weekend.

Besides putting on a great cycling event in a beautiful location, Phil’s inspiration is also to give back.  The event benefits No Kid Hungry https://www.nokidhungry.org/.
