About This Event

This gravel classic returns to its roots for its 10th anniversary, reintroducing the notorious Cyberia section that built its reputation. The course features deep mud, steep grades, and Vermont’s unpredictable early spring conditions that can shift from snow to slush within miles. Founded in 2014 by Anthony Moccia and Heidi Myers, the event has grown into one of New England’s most challenging gravel races while maintaining its grassroots community focus.

The single-distance format covers approximately 53 miles with over 5,300 feet of climbing, capped at 1,500 riders who start in five waves for safety on the technical descents. The course demands both physical endurance and bike handling skills, with muddy off-camber descents, potential hike-a-bike sections through snow, and rough terrain that tests equipment as much as fitness.

What sets Rasputitsa apart is its emphasis on self-sufficiency—no outside support crews are allowed on course. Instead, participants are encouraged to help each other, creating a unique camaraderie that veterans describe as somewhere between an unforgettable experience and an absolute blast. The community atmosphere extends beyond the race itself, with organizers prioritizing inclusivity and fostering genuine connections among participants.

Based at Jay Peak Resort in Vermont’s Green Mountains, the event capitalizes on the challenging beauty of early spring conditions. Riders embrace the unpredictability, knowing that weather and course conditions can change dramatically and become part of the challenge. The festive atmosphere includes live music and celebrates cycling community spirit rather than pure competition.
