Whatcom Events is a nonprofit organization based in Bellingham, Washington, dedicated to organizing and supporting community-based events in Whatcom County. Signature Events:

  1. Mt. Baker Hill Climb: The Mt. Baker Hill Climb, also known as “Ride 542,” is Whatcom Events’ flagship cycling race and rated by Strambecco as one of the Best Cycling Events in the Northwest and one of the Best Hill Climb Events in America.  This challenging hill climb takes riders on a scenic and grueling ascent up Mt. Baker Highway (State Route 542) to Artist Point. Covering roughly 24 miles, participants climb more than 4,300 feet in elevation, navigating through lush forests and alpine views. The event typically draws competitive cyclists from all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond, offering both timed and non-timed categories. The ride’s stunning views and punishing climbs make it a favorite for serious climbers and enthusiasts seeking a memorable and challenging experience.
  2. Ski to Sea: Ski to Sea is a renowned multi-sport relay race held annually in Whatcom County. Teams of 8 athletes compete in 7 different sports, starting at the top of Mt. Baker and finishing in Bellingham Bay. The race includes cross-country skiing, downhill skiing/snowboarding, running, road biking, canoeing, cyclocross biking, and sea kayaking. This unique event celebrates the region’s diverse outdoor opportunities and draws participants from across the world. Ski to Sea is a signature community celebration, attracting thousands of spectators and offering various festival activities.
  3. Tour de Whatcom: Tour de Whatcom is a recreational cycling event catering to riders of all skill levels. It offers multiple route options, ranging from 22 to 100 miles, all showcasing the beautiful landscapes of Whatcom County, including coastal views, farmland, and mountain backdrops. The ride is not competitive but focuses on fostering community spirit and raising funds for local charities. It’s an excellent event for cyclists looking for a scenic ride with friendly, supportive vibes.
  4. Bellingham Traverse: The Bellingham Traverse is a multi-sport relay race designed to celebrate the journey of wild salmon as they traverse their way through local ecosystems. Participants in teams or as solo athletes engage in running, mountain biking, road cycling, and kayaking, covering a course that weaves through urban and natural environments. The event emphasizes teamwork, environmental awareness, and the region’s rich natural heritage.
