Oosik Classic Ski Race & Tour 2027
About This Event
The Oosik Classic marks the end of Alaska’s ski season with a celebration that’s equal parts challenging race and community festival. Hosted by the Denali Nordic Ski Club as their annual fundraiser, this event has grown from 200 participants in 2004 to a sell-out field of 800 skiers who descend on Talkeetna each spring.
The course changes annually, keeping even veteran participants guessing. Three distance options cater to different ambitions: a 10K for newcomers or those seeking a relaxed tour, a 25K middle-distance challenge, and the demanding 50K that tests true endurance across varied Alaskan terrain. All racing follows classic skiing technique, winding through rolling hills, flat stretches, and technical sections surrounded by wilderness views.
What sets the Oosik Classic apart is its community-driven atmosphere. Unofficial “bandit aid stations” staffed by enthusiastic volunteers appear along the route, offering snacks, hydration, and encouragement. Mechanical and SAG support ensure every skier gets the help they need. The event embraces fun over pure competition, with many participants donning creative costumes.
The celebration extends well beyond the finish line. Post-race festivities take over the entire town, with live music and an afterparty at the Denali Arts Council. The Fairview becomes race headquarters for the weekend, creating a festival atmosphere that draws both participants and spectators.
This isn’t just a race—it’s Talkeetna’s spring celebration, where the Nordic skiing community gathers to toast another season while tackling one final challenge on the snow.
