Wilmington Whiteface MTB

June 3, 2023

Take on high rocky summits and breathtaking vistas of Whiteface Mountain in the scenic Adirondack region in Northeastern New York.  Wilmington Whiteface MTB is a Leadville Race Series event and qualifier for the famed Leadville Trail 100 MTB.  The race starts and finishes at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort, featuring a mix of rugged backcountry roads, stretches of flowing and smooth singletrack, fast descents over ski trails, and plenty of climbing. Explore Jeep roads near Jay and Saddleback mountains, along with technical stretches of singletrack at Hardy Road Trails, the Flume Trail, and Whiteface Mountain — the site of the 1980 Olympic Winter Games’ downhill ski races.

According to Dave Wiens, 6-time LT100 MTB Champion:  “Of all the qualifiers outside of Leadville, this is the course that most resembles the Leadville Trail 100 MTB. It has two big climbs and is an out-and-back format like the course in Leadville. It also has quite a bit of pavement and like the LT100, drafting and riding in groups are common. Like the Austin Rattler MTB, this course also has some fun and not overly challenging singletrack riding.”

You must complete the 100K race in less than eight hours to qualify for the Leadville Trail 100 MTB.  Racers registered for the 100K distance will NOT be allowed to change and compete in the 50K distance once the race begins. This will be an automatic DQ.  Aid stations are located approximately every 20K along the course.

The Whiteface Mountain region and Lake Placid represent a great opportunity to spend a long weekend or longer in a stunning part of the world.   Lake Placid is a Winter Olympics venue and a hub for snow sports and other outdoor pursuits. In the center of town, Mirror Lake has a trail around the shoreline. The Lake Placid Olympic Museum exhibits artifacts, including team uniforms and medals. The Historical Society Depot Museum is in the old train station.

The Leadville Race Series began in 1983 with just 45 runners making the epic 100-mile trek through rugged Rocky Mountain terrain. Now produced by Life Time Events, the world-renowned series stretches from New York to California and hosts thousands of racers on foot and in the saddle. Year after year, endurance athletes from all over the world test their grit, guts, and determination with the ultimate goal of “Racing Across the Sky” and earning the coveted silver and gold buckle.  Leadville Race Series MTB events include Lutsen 99er; Silver Rush 50 MTB, Tahoe Trail; Leadville Stage Race; Leadville Trail 100 MTB; Austin Rattler MTB; Barn Burner; and Whiteface Mountain MTB.

Wilmington Whiteface and the Leadville Race Series are brought to you by Life Time Events, which also owns and produces some of the biggest and best events in the country, including Sea Otter Classic, Unbound Gravel; Big Sugar; Chequamegan; Crusher in the Tushar.
