About

The Tin Mountain Conservation Center is a non-profit organization based in New Hampshire that promotes environmental education and conservation. Founded in 1980, Tin Mountain’s mission is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world through hands-on education programs, research, and community outreach. The center offers a wide range of programs for schools, families, and adults, including nature camps, guided hikes, lectures, and workshops, all designed to encourage environmental stewardship and a connection with nature. Tin Mountain also manages over 1,000 acres of conserved land, providing outdoor recreation and nature study opportunities.

A key aspect of Tin Mountain’s work is its partnership with local events that align with its mission of promoting outdoor activity and environmental consciousness. One of its most significant affiliations is with the Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb, an annual cycling event that supports the center. The Hillclimb, known as one of the toughest cycling races in the world, attracts cyclists who challenge themselves to ascend the 7.6 miles to the summit of Mt. Washington, with gradients as steep as 22%.

Tin Mountain Conservation Center is the beneficiary of the event, with proceeds from the race directly supporting the center’s environmental education programs and conservation efforts. This affiliation not only helps fund the center’s mission but also aligns with its goals of encouraging outdoor activity and promoting sustainable use of natural resources. The Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb has become one of Tin Mountain’s largest fundraisers, helping the center continue its important work in preserving New Hampshire’s natural beauty and educating future generations about conservation.

Through this partnership, the Tin Mountain Conservation Center plays an integral role in the success of the Hillclimb while benefiting from the event’s growing popularity and the cycling community’s dedication to environmental causes.
