The Mt. Diablo Challenge
The Valley Spokesman Cycling Club’s signature event, the Mt. Diablo Challenge, is a highly anticipated annual ride that draws cyclists across the region. Held each October, the Mt. Diablo Challenge is a timed, 11-mile hill climb that ascends the scenic slopes of Mount Diablo, a prominent landmark in the East Bay. With an elevation gain of over 3,200 feet, the route presents a rewarding test of endurance and climbing ability, challenging participants to reach the summit as quickly as possible. The event attracts many riders, from competitive climbers aiming for their best time to recreational cyclists eager to take on the challenge.
Proceeds from the Mt. Diablo Challenge support various local charities and promote awareness of environmental conservation efforts in Mount Diablo State Park. With stunning views, a supportive community, and the thrill of achieving a summit finish, the Mt. Diablo Challenge has become a beloved tradition that encapsulates Valley Spokesman’s commitment to cycling, community, and outdoor preservation.
