About
Vermont Overland is an adventure-focused organization that celebrates the rugged beauty and challenging terrain of Vermont through unique off-road endurance events. They are known for hosting two flagship events:
1. Vermont Overland Gravel (VOG) Event/Race
- Overview: The Vermont Overland Gravel event, often called VOG, is a premier gravel cycling race that attracts riders nationwide. The course highlights Vermont’s iconic Class IV roads—unmaintained dirt roads filled with steep climbs, technical descents, and diverse terrain. Riders tackle about 50 miles of challenging terrain with over 7,000 feet of climbing, making it a test of endurance, bike handling, and mental toughness.
- Experience: VOG is more than just a race—it’s an event that celebrates the spirit of gravel riding with a festive atmosphere. After the race, participants can enjoy local food, craft beer, and music, which fosters a community feel among the gravel-riding enthusiasts.
2. Vermont Overland Trail (VOT) Running Event/Race
- Overview: The Vermont Overland Trail running race offers an adventure-focused experience similar to the gravel event but for trail runners. This race takes runners through some of Vermont’s most rugged and scenic landscapes, with technical trails that demand strong trail-running skills and endurance. The course covers a mix of steep ascents, muddy paths, and rocky terrain, delivering a challenge that tests participants’ physical and mental grit.
- Experience: The event emphasizes the rugged and natural beauty of Vermont’s backcountry, where participants traverse remote trails that rarely run outside the event. Like the gravel race, it also has a post-race community vibe with food and celebration, bringing together trail runners from various backgrounds.
Both events embody Vermont Overland’s commitment to creating unique, adventure-driven endurance experiences that showcase the state’s wild and beautiful landscapes.
