Best Gravel Cycling Events in Colorado 2023

Updated Nov 6, 2022
Strambecco rates the top gravel grinder events in Colorado in 2023 based on various factors, including reputation, route quality, location, rider feedback, and the overall uniqueness of the event or race. Colorado terrain features of Strambecco’s best list include tall peaks, long high alpine climbs, canyons, basins and valleys, and forested regions. You can expect lots of elevation gain and events at high base elevations. Pay special attention to those events at or above 7,000 feet of elevation, which warrant more specialized training at altitude and/or acclimation time. You can also expect less predictable weather conditions in Rocky Mountain events, including wind, thunderstorms, and large temperature variations during the day.
If we had to pick the best of the best, or those you might classify as bucket list events, we’d recommend Desert Gravel CO2UT in April and SBT GRVL in August in Steamboat Springs. We also strongly correlate the best events and professional event producers. In Colorado and the greater Rocky Mountain region, premiere event producers include Outside Events, Team Evergreen Cycling, and Life Time Events.
Strambecco does not list every event. We strive to identify and review events that are special and noteworthy. If you have suggestions on other events we should consider or review, please get in touch with us here or send us a note at editors@strambecco.com.
