The Angeles Crest 100 2026 Mile Endurance Run aka the AC100 is a renowned ultramarathon that has challenged trail runners since 1986, taking participants through the untamed beauty of Southern California’s San Gabriel Mountains. Organized by Team AC100 Trail Volunteers in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service, this event stands out for its combination of physical endurance and environmental conservation. Strambecco rates the Angeles Crest 100 2026 as one of the Best Trail Running Race Events in the Southwest and one of the Best Trail Running Race Events in California.

The race spans 100.5 miles, giving runners a chance to traverse a stunning and remote wilderness, all while overcoming immense physical challenges. Unique to this event, participants are required to complete eight hours of trail maintenance before race day, ensuring that the trails remain pristine for future generations.

The Angeles Crest 100 covers 100.5 miles of rugged, mountainous terrain with a total elevation gain of nearly 19,000 feet. Starting in the mountain town of Wrightwood, the course immediately ascends into the San Gabriel Mountains, with runners tackling Mount Baden-Powell early on. At an elevation of 9,399 feet, it is the highest point on the course, offering both breathtaking views and a formidable challenge.

After summiting Baden-Powell, the race route continues along a mix of ridgelines, fire roads, and forested trails. A significant portion of the course winds through the protected wilderness areas, where runners experience the diversity of the San Gabriel backcountry, from rocky ridges to dense woods.

The Angeles Crest 100 features a 33-hour cutoff, with the race beginning at 5:00 AM in Wrightwood. Throughout the course, pacers are required after certain points to assist runners, especially during the night sections when the trails become even more challenging.

Angeles Crest 100 runners must qualify for entry by completing an ultramarathon, ensuring that only experienced trail runners can participate in this extreme challenge. All finishers within the cutoff time receive awards, with special recognition for the top finishers. The Angeles Crest 100 is part of the Sterling Silver Race Series, which includes races such as the Avalon 50, and Old Pueblo Endurance Runs.
