About This Event
The Cruce del Istmo 2026 is a premier mountain biking event in Panama, renowned for its challenging course that traverses the country from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Cruce del Istmo 2026 is considered one of the toughest endurance events in Panama. It consists of crossing the Republic of Panama from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific, skirting the Panama Canal, crossing the great Gatun Lake in Cayuco, and traveling through tropical rainforests, all in a single day.
The Cruce del Istmo is part of the National Ultra Endurance (NUE) Epic 100 Mile MTB Race Series, attracting elite riders from around the globe.
Route Options:
Gran Fondo: Approximately 120 kilometers with a cumulative elevation gain of 1,800 meters, comprising 70% off-road and 30% asphalt sections.
Medio Fondo: A shorter option of 60 kilometers with an elevation gain of 840 meters, featuring a mix of terrains.
Unique Features:
Gatun Lake Crossing: Participants cross the expansive Gatun Lake using traditional cayucos (wooden canoes), adding a distinctive cultural element to the race.
