Glacial Esker Trail Race 2026
About This Event
The Glacial Esker Trail Race offers a unique timed loop format where participants choose between 6, 12, or 24-hour challenges on a 3.55-mile course through Chain O’Lakes State Park. This distinctive approach allows runners to set their own distance goals while testing endurance limits on Indiana’s rolling terrain.
The course weaves through the park’s natural landscape, combining grass paths with technical trail sections and scenic lake views. Each loop returns to a central aid station where runners can refuel and strategize their next segment. The well-stocked station provides hydration and nutrition, making pacing and self-management straightforward.
What sets this race apart is the final half-hour sprint opportunity. During the last 30 minutes of each timed event, organizers open a 1/8-mile out-and-back section, letting participants add extra distance without completing a full loop. This creates exciting finish scenarios as runners calculate whether to start another full loop or maximize shorter segments.
The 24-hour option presents the ultimate endurance test, starting Saturday morning and continuing through the night. The 12-hour version offers a full-day challenge without overnight running, while the 6-hour format focuses on intensity over duration.
Part of the respected Ignite Trail Series, the event maintains strong community support and volunteer presence. The series originated with Indiana’s first 100-mile trail race in 2013, with proceeds supporting park improvements. Race-day registration is not permitted, and no deferrals or refunds are offered, reflecting the event’s organized but firm approach to logistics.
