About This Event

Organized by Bike Doctor Frederick and Dirty Kitten Productions, the Grand Fondue 2026 invites cycling enthusiasts to experience a day of camaraderie and challenge amidst the scenic backdrop of Frederick County. Set to take place in October at the Orchid Cellar Meadery & Winery in Middletown, Maryland, this event blends the thrill of competitive cycling with the opportunity to support Heartly House, a local nonprofit dedicated to assisting survivors of domestic abuse and violence. Strambecco rates the Grand Fondue 2026 as one of the Best Cycling Race Events in Maryland and one of the Best Gravel Cycling Race Events in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Participants of the Grand Fondue can choose from three challenging routes that cater to various levels of cycling prowess:

**Grand Fondue:** Geared towards the most adventurous cyclists, this 100-mile journey boasts 10,000 feet of elevation gain. It promises breathtaking views and a true test of endurance on mixed-surface terrain.

**Half Fondue:** A challenging 50-mile route featuring 5,500 feet of elevation gain. Riders will navigate through varied terrain, including gravel paths and occasional trails.

**Mini Fondue:** Designed for moderate riders, covering approximately 25 miles with 2,000 feet of elevation gain. This route provides a taste of the area’s rolling hills and scenic beauty.

Aid stations are strategically placed along the Half and Grand routes, ensuring riders stay fueled and hydrated throughout the day. Mechanical support is provided by Bike Doctor Frederick, offering pre-ride bike checks and on-route assistance if needed.

Start times are staggered between 8:00-11:00 am to accommodate different route lengths. Riders must adhere to the event’s no-refund policy, with all no-show registrations benefiting Heartly House—a local nonprofit supporting survivors of domestic abuse and other forms of violence.

Dirty Kitten Productions is the event organizer behind the popular Dirty Kitten Gravel Race (DKGR), a gravel cycling event that takes place annually in Rapidan, Virginia. Founded with a strong focus on inclusivity and community, Dirty Kitten Productions strives to create fun, safe, and welcoming environments for cyclists of all backgrounds and abilities. The organization is particularly dedicated to supporting women and non-binary cyclists, offering reserved registration spots for these groups to encourage broader participation in their events.

The Dirty Kitten Gravel Race, the flagship event of Dirty Kitten Productions, is held on the scenic grounds of Locust Hill Farm & Preserve. This event features a variety of race distances, including 20, 40, 60, and 80 miles, all on unpaved terrain that includes gravel roads, dirt tracks, and forest trails. The race is known for its challenging course, which varies from smooth gravel sections to rough and technical segments, offering something for every type of gravel cyclist.

In addition to the Dirty Kitten Gravel Race, Dirty Kitten Productions organizes several other events throughout the year, including the Dirty Kitten Gralley Cat, a gravel grinder with an alleycat-style format, and various training camps and clinics designed to enhance skills and build community among cyclists.
