Leadville Trail 100 Run Camp 2026
About This Event
This intensive three-day training camp prepares runners for the legendary Leadville Trail 100, offering guided exploration of key course sections at Colorado’s oxygen-thin 10,200-foot elevation. The weekend combines serious mountain training with expert instruction from seasoned ultrarunners and race veterans.
The camp follows a progressive format designed to simulate race conditions. Day one eases participants in with a 12-mile night run from Mayqueen, featuring 970 feet of climbing and 780 feet of descent—essential practice for the actual race’s demanding night sections. Day two ramps up significantly with a 25-mile course gaining 3,200 feet and dropping 3,900 feet, consuming most of the day and testing your pacing strategy.
The final day delivers the weekend’s biggest challenge: a 20-mile out-and-back from Willis Gulch Trailhead to Winfield, the actual halfway point of the Leadville 100. This brutal segment gains and loses 6,700 feet each way, exposing runners to the race’s most unforgiving terrain and crucial aid station logistics.
What sets this camp apart is the expert guidance throughout. Experienced camp leaders familiar with every rock and root on the course share tactical knowledge about pacing, nutrition, and gear selection. Evening discussion panels feature accomplished ultrarunners who’ve conquered the “Race Across the Sky” multiple times, offering insights you won’t find in training guides.
The camp attracts both nervous first-timers and veterans seeking course refreshers. Shuttles handle transportation to remote trailheads, and catered meals fuel recovery between efforts. Registration fills quickly without a waitlist, and snow conditions can alter the schedule, but the core experience remains invaluable preparation for one of America’s most demanding 100-milers.
