The Range Gravel Experience 2026
About This Event
This gravel event stands out for its exclusive access to both public and private roads through Southwest Alberta’s diverse ecosystems, including areas typically off-limits to cyclists. The course traverses open grasslands, dense forests of the Porcupine Hills, and the remarkable Skyline Road. A highlight is two natural creek crossings on private roads through Burton’s Burke Creek Ranch, established in 1890, blending history with natural beauty.
The event offers four distinct routes starting and finishing in Claresholm. The Frontier presents an ultra-challenging 211 km course with 3,000 meters of elevation gain for seasoned riders. The Classic Range route covers 122 km with 1,606 meters of climbing, encompassing quintessential gravel terrain and varied ecosystems. The Rustler provides a moderate 85 km challenge through picturesque landscapes, while the Rodeo offers a 60 km option for those seeking a shorter adventure.
As part of the TransRockies Race Series, The Range benefits from world-class event organization and has joined the prestigious Gravel Earth Series, allowing riders to earn international ranking points. The TransRockies partnership brings expertise in crafting exceptional cycling adventures while maintaining the event’s rugged Alberta character.
The event caters to both competitive and recreational participants across different categories and experience levels. Beyond the challenging terrain and stunning scenery, participants experience the camaraderie and support characteristic of TransRockies events, creating lasting memories and connections in one of Alberta’s most beautiful and remote cycling destinations.
