About

The Pirate Cycling League (PCL) is a grassroots cycling club based in Lincoln, Nebraska, known for organizing the iconic Gravel Worlds event. Established in 2008 by local cyclists, the PCL was created as an inclusive, non-traditional option for those who wanted to race without the formalities of sanctioned events. They pride themselves on their laid-back, community-driven ethos, with their motto being simply “Be cool.”

Gravel Worlds began as a small, tongue-in-cheek event called the “Good Life Gravel Adventure” in 2008, before evolving into a renowned annual race. Held on the rugged gravel roads around Lincoln, Nebraska, the flagship race covers 150 miles, offering participants a self-supported, non-sanctioned challenge. In addition to the 150-mile course, there are shorter distances to accommodate riders of varying skill levels

The PCL’s pirate-themed approach is central to the event’s culture, with races referred to as “voyages” and the atmosphere emphasizing camaraderie and fun. Despite its playful tone, Gravel Worlds has become a respected race on the gravel cycling calendar, attracting top athletes and amateurs alike
