Event Overview:
The XTERRA Sugarloaf race is one of the most challenging trail running events in the Northeastern United States, appealing to elite runners and passionate amateurs looking for a test of endurance and trail-running skill. The event typically offers multiple race distances, ranging from a full marathon (42 km) to shorter routes such as a half-marathon (21 km) and a 10-12 km trail run, providing options for runners of all levels. The course traverses through the rugged Sugarloaf Mountain and Carrabassett Valley, known for its dense forests, steep climbs, and rocky outcroppings. The event’s elevation profile features significant climbs and descents, typical of XTERRA races, making it a true test of trail-running prowess.
- Marathon (42 km): Marathoners can expect a tough 40-kilometer/24.94-mile course featuring more than 1,000 meters / 4,393 ft. of climbing, and half that for the 21K runners.
