LoToJa Classic 2026
About This Event
Started in the 1980s by two Logan cyclists seeking to create an American equivalent to the grueling one-day European classics, LoToJa has evolved from a seven-rider challenge into one of the nation’s most respected amateur cycling competitions. The 200-mile journey from Logan, Utah to Teton Village, Wyoming delivers exactly what its founders envisioned: a true test of endurance wrapped in spectacular mountain scenery.
The course’s defining characteristic is its front-loaded suffering. Riders face nearly 10,000 feet of elevation gain, with three major mountain passes crammed into the first 110 miles. The early Preston-to-Montpelier section proves decisive, featuring a brutal 22-mile climb up Strawberry/Emigration Canyon that peaks at 7,424 feet. From there, cyclists tackle Geneva Summit and Salt River Pass before the terrain finally relents.
What separates LoToJa from typical centuries is the Alpine-to-finish stretch through Snake River Canyon beneath the towering Tetons. After 150 miles of punishment, this visual reward provides the motivation needed to reach Teton Village. The contrast between early-morning departures from downtown Logan and afternoon arrivals amid Jackson Hole’s alpine grandeur creates a genuine sense of journey completion.
The event maintains its grassroots character despite growing popularity. Registration operates via lottery system due to limited field size. A KOM/QOM competition on Salt River Pass adds competitive edge, while the finish line celebration honors Utah Triple Crank winners who’ve conquered the state’s three major cycling challenges.
Veterans describe LoToJa’s peculiar psychological effect: despite post-ride vows to never return, most find themselves planning improvement strategies within hours of finishing.
