About This Event

Set against Michigan’s forest trails and lake country, the Run Woodstock Hallucination combines ’60s counterculture vibes with serious ultrarunning. This groovy weekend serves as the fourth leg of the Midwest Grand Slam of Ultrarunning and qualifies finishers for Western States 100, making it both a cultural celebration and a legitimate stepping stone to ultrarunning’s biggest stages.

The flagship 100-mile and 100K events kick off Friday afternoon on a challenging 16.6-mile loop system. The 100-mile requires six loops while the 100K covers four loops with shortcuts. Each loop delivers approximately 1,500 feet of elevation gain through Michigan’s rolling terrain of dirt singletrack, forest paths, and brief beach sections. Saturday brings the 50-mile, 50K, marathon, and half-marathon distances on variations of the same course.

Aid stations appear every 4-5 miles on ultra distances, stocked with traditional fare plus evening pizza for the long-haulers. Both century events allow 30 hours to complete the distance. The weekend atmosphere perfectly balances serious racing with laid-back festival vibes, complete with camping, live music, and yoga sessions.

Awards reflect the event’s dual nature: 100-mile finishers earn coveted belt buckles alongside peace sign medals, while Saturday night’s theme awards celebrate the “Hippest Hippies,” best campsites, and most authentic vintage vehicles. The combination of Western States qualification potential with weekend-long festival atmosphere creates an experience where competitive goals and community celebration coexist naturally.

The event benefits Washtenaw Promise, supporting local education initiatives while runners chase personal records through Michigan’s beautiful trail systems.

Western States 100 Qualifier

Event Organizer

Strambecco profiles events that are Western States 100 Qualifier events.   The Western States Endurance Run, known commonly as the Western States 100, is a 100.2-mile (161 km) ultramarathon in  California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains trails yearly on the last full weekend of June. The race starts at the base of the Olympic Valley ski resort and finishes in Auburn, California. The terrain is quite rugged, frequently showcasing snow on the highest passes and record-hot temperatures throughout the course.  Runners ascend a cumulative total of 18,090 feet (5500 m) and descend a total of 22,970 feet (7000 m) on mountain trails before reaching the finish. Because of the length, the race commences at 5 a.m. and continues through the day and into the night. Runners finishing before the 30-hour time limit for the race receive a commemorative bronze belt buckle, while runners finishing in under 24 hours receive a silver belt buckle.

The Western States 100 is one of the five 100-mile races comprising the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning, including the Old Dominion 100Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run, and the Wasatch Front 100 Mile Endurance Run in Utah and the Leadville Trail 100 in Colorado.

The Western States Board of Trustees has instituted rules around the overall lottery and selection process, which you can see here.
