About This Event

24 Hours of Great Glen 2026 (24HOGG) is one of New England’s most iconic and beloved bike events, offering a notable 24-hour challenge with a festival-like atmosphere of camping, family-friendly activities, parties, live music, and food and drink. The race takes place in New Hampshire and is produced by Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, nestled at the base of Mt. Washington in Pinkham Notch.

Organizers make the race not only challenging but exceptionally unique. For example, a previous year’s theme for the event was “Back to the Land of Oz” (i.e., The Wizard of Oz). On the course, racers met flying monkeys, rode through a field of poppies under a rainbow, and followed the “yellow brick road,” an optional fully painted floating bridge over the Glen pond. The team at Strambecco considers 24 Hours of Great Glen 2026 to be one of the Best Mountain Bike Race Events in New England.

For twenty years, between 1995 and 2015, cycling enthusiasts from all corners of the nation made their way to the foot of Mt. Washington in Pinkham Notch, New Hampshire, enticed by the allure of the 24 Hours of Great Glen (24HOGG) mountain bike race. From its humble beginnings with just 11 teams, the 24HOGG steadily gained momentum, reaching a milestone in 2015 with an astonishing turnout of over 180 teams and 500 dedicated participants.

Following a five-year hiatus, further prolonged by an unfortunate COVID-induced delay, the local Moat Mountain Smokehouse and Brewery stepped up as the title sponsor, rekindling the race’s legacy in 2021. Since then, the event has been an instant sell-out.

The race starts with an exhilarating “Le Mans” start, where participants circle the pond on foot before hopping onto their bikes. The trail meanders through a captivating blend of diverse terrains in the North Country woodlands, combining the rustic charm of carriage roads at Great Glen Trails with a thrilling single track. Each lap spans approximately 9 miles, allowing riders to test their skills and endurance. As you approach the conclusion of each lap, an exciting feature awaits you – an optional floating bridge that adds an extra element of challenge and excitement to the ride.

The Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, located at the base of Mt. Washington in Pinkham Notch, New Hampshire, is a premier outdoor recreation destination offering a wide range of activities year-round. From mountain biking and trail running in the summer to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, the center is a hub for outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore the rugged beauty of the White Mountains.

One of the signature events produced by the Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center is the 24 Hours of Great Glen (24HOGG), an iconic mountain biking race that has become a beloved tradition in New England. Held annually, this 24-hour endurance race challenges participants to complete as many laps as possible on a roughly 9-mile loop course that winds through the center’s diverse terrain, including carriage roads, technical singletrack, and even a floating bridge across Glen Pond. The event is known for its festive atmosphere, featuring camping, live music, family-friendly activities, and a vibrant community spirit. Racers can compete solo or as part of a team in various categories, with options to participate in either the 24-hour or 12-hour divisions.

The event, sponsored by Moat Mountain Smokehouse and Brewery, is as much a social gathering as a competitive race, drawing participants and spectators alike for its unique blend of endurance, fun, and camaraderie. The 24 Hours of Great Glen is not just a test of physical stamina but also an opportunity to immerse oneself in the scenic and supportive environment that Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center offers.
