Canyonlands Ultra 2026
About This Event
The Canyonlands Ultra showcases Moab’s spectacular red rock terrain across six distances ranging from 15K to 100K. Organized by Mad Moose Events as part of the Run Moab Series, this race combines technical trail challenges with some of Utah’s most stunning desert scenery, featuring views of the La Sal Mountains, sandstone formations, and expansive canyons.
The 100K ultimate challenge covers multiple loops with 7,828 feet of elevation change, demanding both physical endurance and mental fortitude. The 50-mile distance requires completing a marathon loop plus a shorter technical section with 5,220 feet of elevation gain and loss. The 50K adds technical segments to the marathon loop for 2,644 feet of climbing, while the marathon itself spans 26.2 miles of varied terrain from smooth doubletrack to technical sections.
The half marathon provides a solid challenge with steady climbs and descents totaling 1,119 feet of elevation change, rewarding runners with panoramic desert vistas. The 15K offers newcomers a taste of Moab’s unique terrain through sandy washes and technical doubletrack with 689 feet of elevation gain.
Multiple aid stations provide water, electrolytes, and fuel throughout each course. The event follows a cupless policy, so runners must bring reusable cups or hydration systems. Volunteers assist with filling bottles and hydration packs to keep participants properly fueled.
The race fosters strong community spirit with post-race celebrations where participants share experiences and connect with fellow runners. All finishers receive a custom race shirt, BOCO hat, and commemorative medal. Dispersed camping is available at the start/finish area for those wanting the full desert experience.
