Dead Horse Ultra 2026
About This Event
The Dead Horse Ultra takes full advantage of Moab’s legendary Magnificent Seven trail system, delivering one of Utah’s most challenging and scenic trail running experiences. Set in November when desert temperatures are ideal for running, this race showcases the technical slickrock terrain and sweeping red rock landscapes that make Moab a destination for serious trail runners.
The race offers three distances across increasingly demanding terrain. The 50-mile route represents the ultimate test, threading through the heart of the Magnificent Seven system with significant elevation gains, technical slickrock passages, and rocky climbs that demand both fitness and trail skills. Runners navigate challenging descents while taking in panoramic views of Arches National Park, the La Sal Mountains, and the Moab Valley spread below.
The 50K covers many of the same technical sections and vistas as the longer course, providing a substantial challenge without the full ultra distance commitment. The 30K option offers newcomers and those seeking a shorter test a mix of technical terrain and smoother sections with moderate climbing.
Mad Moose Events supports runners with strategically placed aid stations providing hydration, nutrition, and basic medical assistance throughout the courses. The race maintains field limits to ensure safety and preserve the quality experience that has made this event a cornerstone of both the Triple Crown of Moab and Run Moab Series.
Generous cutoff times allow runners to fully absorb the experience without undue time pressure. The finish line celebration features food, music, and the strong community atmosphere that draws runners back year after year.
