Event & Course Information

One of the most exciting aspects of the Dead Horse Ultra is its challenging and diverse routes. The race features several distances, including 50 miles, 50K, and 30K, each designed to test runners' endurance and skill on technical terrain. The 50-mile route is the ultimate test, taking runners through the heart of the Magnificent Seven trail system. This route includes significant elevation gains and a mix of technical slickrock, rocky climbs, and breathtaking descents. Runners are rewarded with panoramic views of Arches National Park, the La Sal Mountains, and the Moab Valley.

The 50K route offers a slightly shorter yet equally challenging experience, featuring many of the same technical sections and stunning vistas as the 50-mile course. This route is perfect for runners looking to push their limits without committing to the full 50 miles. The 15K  &30K routes are ideal for those new to trail running or seeking a shorter challenge, offering a mix of technical terrain and smoother sections with moderate elevation gains.

Throughout the event, participants are supported by well-placed aid stations offering hydration, nutrition, and basic medical assistance. While the event is primarily self-supported, there are provisions for limited mechanical aid at designated stations. The race has field limits to ensure safety and a quality experience for all participants, so early registration is recommended. Each route has a generous completion cutoff time, allowing runners to fully enjoy the experience without undue pressure. The event starts early in the morning, with exact times announced closer to race day. Finishers receive unique awards, and there is a festive atmosphere with food, music, and camaraderie at the finish line. Additionally, a pre-race expo showcases the latest gear, local vendors, and sponsor booths. There are no specific qualifications to participate, but runners should be prepared for a challenging and rewarding experience. Detailed route maps and guidelines are provided in the event passport, released a few months before the race.
