About This Event

El Tour de Zona operates as a fully-supported three-day cycling tour that prioritizes exploration and camaraderie over pure competition. Based in Sierra Vista, Arizona, this event from the Perimeter Bicycling Association combines daily rides through historic Southeastern Arizona with evening festivals featuring live music, local cuisine, and craft beer.

Each day presents a different destination loop from Veterans Memorial Park. Friday’s 26-mile ride to Ramsey Canyon Preserve includes 1,300 feet of climbing with a 9 am start and optional guided rides from Velo/Vets. Saturday ramps up significantly with a 63-mile roundtrip to Bisbee featuring 3,500 feet of elevation gain and a 7:30 am departure. The final day offers a 36-mile route to Tombstone with 1,600 feet of climbing and a relaxed 9 am start.

The tour provides comprehensive support including fully stocked rest stops, SAG vehicles, mechanics, and medical teams along each route. After completing daily rides, cyclists can secure bikes in the event corral and join the festival atmosphere at Veterans Memorial Park’s Centennial Pavilion.

What sets this event apart is its evening programming. Each day from 4 pm, the festival features two bands with headliners like Badlands and Gigi and the GLOW, plus dinner and drinks. Morning breakfast service runs from 7-9 am at the same venue.

The BaseCamp at Veterans Memorial Park opens Thursday at noon for RV and tent camping, serving as the central hub with showers, locker rooms, food options, and entertainment. This creates an immersive experience where the social aspect matches the riding challenge.

Perimeter Bicycling Association is renowned for organizing cycling events that cater to a wide range of participants, from novices to professionals. They design events like El Tour de Zona, El Tour de Mesa, and El Tour de Tucson with varying distances to accommodate all skill levels, and are considered some of the Best Road Cycling Events in the Southwest.

These events are celebrated for their inclusive nature and also for their charitable impact, as they support numerous beneficiaries, including community resources and medical centers. For instance, at El Tour de Mesa, Perimeter Bicycling Association partners with CycloMesa, a bike festival, and offers routes that traverse the stunning Salt River Recreation Area and Tonto National Forest. El Tour de Tucson, on the other hand, is an annual event attracting thousands of cyclists to ride around the perimeter of Tucson, Arizona, supporting charities like the Diamond Children’s Medical Center.
