Indiana Trail 100 (IT 100) 2026
About This Event
Founded in 2013 as Indiana’s first 100-mile ultramarathon, this event has evolved into a world-class race that serves as both the final leg of the Midwest Grand Slam of Ultrarunning and a Western States 100 qualifier. Created by local ultra runners to give back to Chain O’Lakes State Park in Albion, Indiana, the race operates as a non-profit with proceeds funding trail maintenance and expansion—the organizers have helped add 10-12 miles of new trail to the park’s system.
The 100-mile race follows four 25-mile wooded trail loops, each with approximately 1,500 feet of elevation gain for a total of 6,000 feet. Runners navigate technical trails, steep ascents, and rolling grasslands while enjoying panoramic lake views throughout the park’s 11 interconnected lakes. The course demands respect with its abrupt elevation changes and varied terrain that tests technical skills alongside endurance.
Aid stations appear every 3 to 5.5 miles, well-stocked with hot and cold food, hydration, and medical support. All races start Saturday at 6:00 AM with cutoffs at 9:00 PM Saturday for the 50-mile, 5:00 AM Sunday for the 75-mile, and noon Sunday for the 100-mile. Crucially, 100-mile runners must begin their final loop by 5:00 AM Sunday to avoid disqualification.
The event maintains a supportive, community-driven atmosphere with awards given as runners finish rather than at a formal ceremony. As a Trail Sisters-approved race, it ensures equal awards and women-specific aid station support. The park offers free tent camping near the start/finish, and post-race showers are available. Finishers receive buckles for 100 miles and medals for shorter distances.
