The Power Of Four Skimo race takes place in beautiful Aspen, Colorado, and is one of the leading ski-mountaineering races in the western hemisphere. This event is part of The Power of Four Race Series, a unique multi-sport event series that includes mountain bike and trail run races during the summer: Aspen Snowmass 50 MTB; Power of Four Trail Run.
Competitors will climb and descend each of the four ski resorts in the towns of Aspen/Snowmass. This means they will ascend Snowmass, progress through the backcountry and traverse Buttermilk, and then to the bottom of Aspen Highlands. Then racers will ascend to the famous Highlands bowl, where they will make a stunning descent and finally climb Aspen Mountain’s backside (Ajax).
The race has to be done in a partner (groups of two), and racers will have to stick together throughout the course. The course is big; there is a whopping 11,453′ feet of elevation game over 24.8 miles! This race is no joke, and the full power of four lengthened versions has to be done in pristine fitness to make the time cut-offs.
But there is good news for everybody getting into long ski tours or ski mountaineering in general. There is the ‘Power of Two’ lengthened version, which just does the second half of the course, cutting the uphill states about in half.
With Ski-mo fastly growing in popularity in the Rockies in Colorado, the Power Of Four has been at the forefront since the beginning. It attracts some of the fittest and most experienced skimo racers in the United States.
Registration opens on December 1.
