Ride Across Indiana – RAIN 2026
About This Event
This 160-mile journey across Indiana follows the historic National Road (US 40) from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute to Earlham College in Richmond, offering cyclists a rare opportunity to experience the breadth of Indiana’s geography in a single day. Now in its 36th year, RAIN has become the Midwest’s premier one-day endurance cycling challenge.
The route showcases Indiana’s gently rolling terrain and traverses farmlands, small towns, and diverse geographical features that define the region. Riders follow the Historic National Route 40, an older, divided four-lane road known for its scenic vistas and cyclist-friendly conditions with light traffic. The course is carefully marked and supported throughout, allowing participants to focus entirely on the physical and mental challenge of covering such distance from dawn to dusk.
What sets RAIN apart is its blend of accessibility and genuine difficulty. While the terrain isn’t mountainous, the 160-mile distance under Indiana’s summer conditions creates a formidable test of endurance. Participants often face intense heat or unexpected weather, adding an element of unpredictability that veteran riders say makes each year’s experience unique.
The event maintains strong logistical support with strategically placed rest stops providing water and nutrition throughout the route. The Bloomington Bicycle Club’s organization ensures comprehensive rider support, creating an environment where cyclists can push personal boundaries while feeling secure in the event’s infrastructure.
RAIN attracts riders seeking a serious single-day challenge without the technical complexity of mountain terrain, making it particularly appealing to road cyclists looking to test their endurance limits.
