Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through inclusive sports and recreational activities. Founded in 1987, Vermont Adaptive provides year-round adaptive sports programs, including skiing, cycling, paddling, and other outdoor activities. The organization operates at various locations across Vermont, including Pico Mountain, Sugarbush Resort, and Bolton Valley, offering participants the opportunity to enjoy the state’s beautiful landscapes while engaging in physical activity tailored to their abilities.

Mission and Programs:

  • Empowerment through Sports: Vermont Adaptive’s mission is to empower people of all abilities through inclusive sports and recreational opportunities. The organization believes that sports and physical activity are crucial for personal growth, self-confidence, and independence, regardless of physical or cognitive abilities.
  • Year-Round Programs: Vermont Adaptive offers a wide range of sports and activities throughout the year. In the winter, participants can enjoy skiing and snowboarding, while summer activities include cycling, kayaking, sailing, and hiking. Premier Events:

  1. The Vermont 100 Trail Run
    • Description: The Vermont 100 is one of the oldest and most prestigious ultramarathons in the United States, attracting elite trail runners from around the world. Held annually in July, the event offers participants the challenge of running 100 miles through Vermont’s scenic countryside, including dirt roads, forest trails, and rolling hills.
    • Supporting Vermont Adaptive: The Vermont 100 is unique in that it is one of the only 100-mile races in the country that also includes a simultaneous 100-mile horse race. The event is a major fundraiser for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, with all proceeds going directly to support the organization’s programs.

  2. The Vermont 50 MTB & Ultra Run
    • Description: The Vermont 50 is a challenging mountain biking and trail running event held each September. Participants can choose between a 50-mile mountain bike race or a 50-mile ultra-marathon run, both of which take place on a mix of rugged singletrack, dirt roads, and technical trails through the picturesque mountains of Vermont.  The events are both rate by Strambecco as Best-in-Class New England Events for MTB and Trail Running
    • Fundraising Event: Like the Vermont 100, the Vermont 50 is a key fundraiser for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports. The event draws athletes of all levels, from serious competitors to recreational riders and runners, all coming together to support the inclusive mission of Vermont Adaptive.
