The Bell’s Iceman Cometh Challenge, presented by Trek, draws more than 5,400 riders and nearly 12,000 spectators to Northern Michigan each November for one of the largest single-day mountain bike races in the United States. Held on the first Saturday of the month, this iconic point-to-point race runs approximately 30 miles from the Kalkaska Airport to Timber Ridge in Traverse City, threading through the breathtaking Pere Marquette State Forest.

The course is a beloved mix of dirt roads, two-tracks, abandoned railroad beds, and the world-famous Vasa Nordic ski trail, crossing just one paved road in its entirety. That purity of terrain, combined with late-autumn northern Michigan conditions, gives the Iceman its legendary character. Whether you’re a seasoned Pro lining up for the 2:30 PM elite wave or a first-timer rolling out with the main field at 8:45 AM, the experience is unforgettable.

With 77 age divisions, there’s a place for nearly every rider. Beginners can tackle the 9-mile Meijer Slush Cup, while young racers can join the free Sno-Cone and Pop-Cycle youth events. The weekend kicks off Friday, November 6 with the Ice Cycle Expo and packet pickup at Grand Traverse Resort in Acme. The 2026 main race is sold out, but a waiting list remains open through race day.
