Echo Red to Red 2026
About This Event
Since its inception in 2009, this cornerstone of Oregon’s cross-country racing scene has thrilled riders with its dynamic mix of pavement, gravel, and singletrack through Echo’s expansive trail network, developed over two decades. The race serves as the exciting opener for the Mudslinger Oregon XC Series, drawing competitive and recreational riders alike with its challenging and scenic courses that blend Echo’s rich historical backdrop with modern mountain biking trails.
The event offers two distinct course options. The short course spans approximately 14 miles of mixed singletrack and gravel sections, designed for Category 3 riders and newcomers to competitive mountain biking. The main attraction is the 29-mile long course for Elite, Category 1, and Single Speed riders, combining technical singletrack, fast gravel segments, and rolling terrain with substantial elevation gain that demands both endurance and technical skill.
Both courses start and finish in Echo’s historic downtown area, creating a lively atmosphere as riders gather pre- and post-race. Strategically placed aid stations provide hydration and nutrition support, while mechanical and SAG support ensures participants can tackle the course confidently. Field limits are enforced to ensure safety and optimal trail conditions, with completion cutoff times for each category.
Post-race celebrations showcase Echo’s small-town charm with an awards ceremony recognizing top finishers, local vendors, and a cycling gear expo. The community-focused approach creates opportunities to mingle with fellow riders and cycling enthusiasts, making it a favorite destination for repeat participants who appreciate the welcoming atmosphere alongside the challenging terrain.
