About This Event

Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas created FNLD GRVL in collaboration with the team behind SBT GRVL, launching in June 2023 in Lahti, Finland. The event draws roughly 1,000 riders annually and takes place in August, showcasing Finland’s pristine gravel roads through the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark.

Three distance options cater to different abilities. The 40km Forest Route winds through Finland’s signature pine forests and includes an e-bike category for newcomers. The moderate 77km Lakes Route circles the region’s stunning lake system, offering scenic variety without overwhelming distance. The flagship 177km Midnight Sun Route challenges experienced riders with diverse terrain under Finland’s ethereal midnight sun, backed by a €20,000 pro prize purse.

All courses feature fully marked routes and well-stocked aid stations. The routes utilize secluded gravel roads carved by Ice Age geology, creating a network of trails through forests and around crystal-clear lakes. Lahti’s experience hosting major international events like IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships ensures smooth logistics and excellent support.

The post-race atmosphere embraces Finnish hospitality with included meals, finisher’s gear, and an after-party featuring live music. Lahti sits just an hour from Helsinki, making travel convenient while maintaining small-town charm. The town of 100,000 residents combines metropolitan amenities with cultural attractions like the Sibelius Concert Hall.

Riders consistently praise the pristine setting and the unique experience of racing under the midnight sun through some of Europe’s most untouched cycling terrain.
