GFNY Maryland Cambridge 2026
About This Event
Cambridge proudly hosts GFNY Maryland, renowned as Maryland’s hardest and biggest road race and a GFNY World Series calendar event. The race offers two distinct courses: a challenging 92-mile long course for competitive riders and a more relaxed 48-mile medium course. Police-moderated intersections throughout both routes ensure safe, uninterrupted racing.
Starting on Race Street in Cambridge, the course takes riders through Dorchester County’s pristine landscapes and along the stunning Chesapeake Bay coastline. The route passes the 27,000-acre Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, home to bald eagles, herons, and scenic marshlands, plus the historically significant Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park.
The course remains predominantly flat with occasional wind gusts adding unpredictability. Experienced athletes can form and work within pelotons, while the supportive environment and well-marked pathways welcome beginners. The long course loops back for a second round before finishing in downtown Cambridge.
A key distinction: the long course is competitive, with finishers ranked by category and eligible for podium awards, while the medium course provides finish times but no rankings.
Strategically placed aid stations at miles 11, 36, 55, and 80 stock water, electrolytes, soda, and basic sustenance, plus medical supplies. Mechanical assistance is available at the start and all aid stations, though riders should bring tools and spare tubes.
The day concludes with finisher medals and a post-race meal, celebrating cycling’s spirit of camaraderie. Cambridge’s October setting provides mild temperatures and vibrant fall colors, perfect for this challenging yet scenic event.
