Gran Fondo Florida 2026
About This Event
Set among the rolling hills of Dade City, this March event offers cyclists a warm escape from winter while delivering surprising challenges. Despite being labeled the “easiest” Gran Fondo National Series event by total elevation, the relentless rolling terrain through horse farms, orange groves, and crystal-clear springs creates a deceptively tough course that has earned recognition as Florida’s most challenging gran fondo.
The Gran Route covers 101 miles with 3,100 feet of elevation gain, winding through Pasco and Hernando Counties along roads that incorporate sections of a proposed Olympic road race course and traverse historical cycling territories like Darby Road. The area serves as winter training grounds for world-class triathletes, testament to the quality of riding terrain. Four strategically placed aid stations provide support throughout the course.
The Medio Route spans 60 miles with 2,200 feet of climbing, offering the same scenic landscapes in a more manageable package, while the 35-mile Piccolo Route still delivers 1,400 feet of elevation through the characteristic rolling hills.
The event uses timed-segment racing rather than overall time, with waves starting at 8:00 AM. Courses are well-marked with paint and signage, supported by law enforcement, mechanics, and sag vehicles. Top finishers in age group categories receive custom kits from Suarez, and all participants get event-specific jerseys when registering at least 26 days prior.
Post-ride festivities include food from Pig on the Road Kitchen, beer from Dade City’s local brewery, and a substantial prize raffle featuring over $5,000 in sponsor prizes including bike travel vouchers, GPS computers, and training equipment. Strong performances can secure qualification spots for the USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships.
