Ironbull Ultra Trail 2026
About This Event
The Ironbull Ultra Trail transforms Rib Mountain State Park into an exceptional trail running experience with three challenging distances: 15K, 25K, and 50K. What sets this event apart is its unique start and finish on the race track at State Park Speedway, creating a memorable transition from pavement to trail and back again.
Rib Mountain’s glacially eroded terrain provides the backbone for these demanding courses. The 25K and 50K routes share the same challenging loop, with 50K participants tackling it twice. Each loop delivers approximately 3,600 feet of elevation gain through varied, rugged terrain. The signature challenge comes through Granite Peak Ski Area, featuring what organizers call “the steepest hill in the Midwest” – a brutal descent followed by an equally punishing climb that tests every runner’s resolve.
The 15K offers newcomers a substantial taste of Rib Mountain’s character with 1,400 feet of elevation gain, culminating in that thrilling speedway finish. All courses wind through the heart of this distinctive landscape, showcasing peak fall colors that provide stunning backdrop to the physical challenge.
Race logistics are well-executed, with fully stocked aid stations positioned every 2.5 to 4 miles. This is a cupless event, so bringing personal hydration equipment is essential. The day starts early with 5:00 am registration, 7:00 am starts for longer distances, and a 1:00 pm 15K start. All courses close at 6:30 PM.
Beyond competition, Ironbull emphasizes community building and outdoor adventure promotion. Their partnership with Trail Sisters highlights female participation, while the post-race celebration creates lasting connections among participants through food, music, and shared accomplishment stories.
