Laramie Range Epic 2026
About This Event
The Laramie Range Epic winds through Wyoming’s Pole Mountain trail system on 32 miles of technical singletrack that climbs 3,190 feet at over 7,500 feet elevation. Originally starting with a police escort through downtown Laramie in 1998, this mountain bike race has maintained its traditional cross-country racing roots while evolving with modern mountain bike culture over 25+ years.
Riders choose between a single 32-mile loop or the full Epic double-lap covering 64 miles with 6,380 feet of climbing. The course showcases the area’s renowned singletrack through rolling hills east of the Laramie Valley, offering both technical challenges and sustained climbs that test fitness and bike handling skills.
Aid stations positioned every 10 miles provide sports nutrition and real food, meaning Epic riders hit six refueling opportunities across the full distance. The volunteer support is notably strong, creating an atmosphere that balances serious competition with approachable fun.
The event maintains a grassroots community feel despite its reputation as quality mountain bike racing. After finishing, riders gather for food trucks, music, and awards in a relaxed post-race atmosphere. Many participants return year after year for the combination of challenging terrain and welcoming vibe.
The high-altitude location adds an extra fitness element, particularly for riders coming from lower elevations. Veterans of the race consistently praise both the trail quality and the event organization, noting how the course showcases some of the best riding the Rocky Mountain region offers without feeling overly commercialized.
