Leadville Stage Race 2026
About This Event
The Leadville Stage Race transforms the legendary Leadville Trail 100 MTB course into a three-day adventure through the Colorado Rockies. Rather than tackling the brutal 100-mile distance in one push, riders spread the challenge across three stages while competing for daily prizes and the coveted leader’s jersey.
The course splits the classic 100-mile out-and-back route, starting from Leadville’s 10,152-foot elevation down to Twin Lakes dam at 9,200 feet, then climbing to the notorious Columbine Mine at 12,513 feet. Most of the terrain follows mountain two-track fire roads, but the real challenge comes from sustained high-altitude racing.
Stage 1 covers 40 miles with 4,812 feet of climbing. Stage 2 offers a recovery day of sorts with 22 miles and 4,035 feet of gain. The finale punishes tired legs with 41 miles and 4,872 feet of climbing. An 11-hour cutoff applies across all three days to earn official finisher status.
The altitude demands serious preparation. With the majority of riding above 11,000 feet and Stage 2 topping 12,000 feet, sea-level athletes should arrive at least four days early for acclimatization. The thin air turns moderate climbs into leg-burning sufferfests.
Life Time Events brings polished organization with well-stocked aid stations and clearly marked courses. The event attracts top-tier competition while maintaining the supportive atmosphere Leadville events are known for. Complete the stage race within qualifying time and you’ll earn entry to the Leadville Trail 100 MTB, one of mountain biking’s most coveted events.
