Phil’s Cookie Fondo 2026
About This Event
Former pro cyclist Phil Gaimon created this unique fondo that combines challenging riding through Malibu’s Santa Monica Mountains with an impressive cookie operation—10,000 gourmet cookies strategically placed at aid stations throughout the weekend. Gaimon’s infectious enthusiasm and hands-on involvement create a welcoming community atmosphere that sets this event apart from typical fondos.
The weekend format offers rides on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday features a 16-mile Shakeout Ride with costume contest, plus 45 and 56-mile routes up Fernwood and Stunt that serve as warm-ups for Sunday’s main event.
Sunday delivers the signature routes. The Mini Chip covers 20 flat miles perfect for families and recreational riders. The Sugar Cookie spans 49 miles starting with the relentless Westlake Boulevard climb, followed by a scenic Mulholland Highway descent to the Pacific before tackling Potrero, the weekend’s toughest ascent.
The popular 83-mile Chocolate Chip route showcases Southern California’s best terrain across four major climbs with serious elevation gain. Only experienced riders should attempt the 103-mile Double Fudge—Gaimon’s personal design that tests endurance, climbing legs, and willpower in equal measure.
Cookie stops feature everything from classic chocolate chip to gluten-free options, making refueling genuinely enjoyable. The post-ride celebration maintains the community vibe that participants consistently praise, creating an atmosphere where riders connect over shared suffering and sugar-fueled recovery.
Proceeds support Santa Monica Mountains conservation through the Sierra Club’s Los Angeles Chapter, adding purpose to the pedaling and cookie consumption.
