Event & Course Information
Each year, the Sturdy Dirty promises an exhilarating female-only enduro experience amidst rugged trails. This celebratory race offers multiple route options, each designed to challenge riders of varying skill levels while showcasing the diverse terrain of the region. That being said, participants in the Sturdy Dirty race should possess at least intermediate mountain biking skills and fitness levels to comfortably navigate the course. In addition, it's recommended participants join the dedicated training program to be adequately prepared for the race.
If you're new to enduro or the Sturdy Dirty, you can expect that on course, participants will ride mostly single-track with some gravel roads between stages, with all racing occurring on single-track. Racers should expect lines at each stage and may want to bring a coat for comfort while waiting. Although racers are grouped by category, mixing between categories is likely in later stages, so participants should be prepared for passing and are encouraged to be patient and courteous. Racers will be sent off in 30-second increments to maintain reasonable lines, with timers adjusting intervals as needed. Passing is a part of enduro racing, and protocols will be discussed at the Mandatory Riders Meeting.
The Expert/Pro Route presents four stages that test the mettle of highly skilled riders with technical descents and demanding double black diamond trails, including sections on Plum Creek DH, CCDH 3, 4, 5, and 6, Upper PT, and Lower Pop-n-Tops & Flow State.
Intermediate riders will find the Sport Route engaging, featuring a mix of technical challenges and flowy sections on A3, Plum Creek DH, A1, and Lower Pop-n-Tops & Flow State.
For those new to racing, the Beginner Route offers manageable trails with a few technical features on A1, A3, and Lower Pop-n-Tops & Flow State, providing an ideal introduction to mountain bike racing.
Additionally, the Lite and Adaptive Routes cater to riders with adaptive needs or those seeking a less intense experience, ensuring inclusivity within the event.
The Lite, Beginner, and Sport race segments will primarily feature blue downhill trails, which are generally winding and include roots, rocks, and rollable jumps and drops. Riders should aim to stay on their bikes for most of the trail, though walking a few challenging features is acceptable.
Throughout the race, strategically located aid stations provide essential supplies like water, nutrition, and first aid. While riders are encouraged to be self-sufficient, mechanical support is available at key points on the course to assist with bike repairs.
Participants can expect a vibrant post-race atmosphere, with awards given to top finishers in each category and a raffle offering exciting prizes. A post-race party featuring food, drinks, and entertainment celebrates the 10th anniversary of the event, providing riders with an opportunity to share their experiences and connect with fellow enthusiasts.
The organization uses an inclusive definition of "woman" and "female." They welcome anyone who experiences life as a woman, identifies as a woman, or is gender fluid, gender diverse, queer, expansive, questioning, or non-binary. All are invited to spectate and volunteer, but only women are permitted to race.
The Sturdy Dirty promises an unforgettable mountain biking experience, combining the thrill of competitive racing with the camaraderie of a vibrant female biking community.
