Trans-Sylvania Gravel Epic 2026
About This Event
The Trans-Sylvania Gravel Epic stands out as a premier multi-stage gravel race through central Pennsylvania’s rugged forests and state parks. Taking place over four or two days in early August, this event combines challenging terrain with a strong community atmosphere that keeps riders returning year after year.
The race offers both long and short course options across four distinct stages, each showcasing different aspects of Pennsylvania’s wilderness. Stage one at Seven Mountains Scout Camp covers 47.5 miles with 4,270 feet of climbing over rolling forest trails. The second stage in Moshannon Forest presents the longest challenge—64.3 miles and 4,820 feet of elevation gain on the full course—with aid stations strategically placed at miles 25 and 44. Stage three delivers the biggest climbing day with 6,905 feet of elevation over 62.4 miles, testing riders’ endurance as fatigue accumulates. The final stage covers 57 miles with 5,296 feet of climbing, providing a fitting conclusion to the multi-day adventure.
What sets this event apart is its inclusive multi-format approach. The Experience category allows non-competitive participation, while duo teams can tackle the course together with combined times. Cutoff times range from 6 to 7 hours per stage, accommodating strong recreational riders alongside competitive racers.
The event operates from a base camp at Seven Mountains Scout Camp, where camping is included with entry and meals are provided daily. This creates a genuine community atmosphere where riders share stories between stages and form lasting connections. Veterans praise the well-organized logistics, reliable aid stations, and the unique opportunity to explore Pennsylvania’s hidden gravel roads over multiple days rather than a single intense effort.
