- American Birkebeiner (Birkie)
The American Birkebeiner, often called “The Birkie,” is ABSF’s flagship event and North America’s largest cross-country ski race. Covering 50K for skate skiers and 55K for classic skiers, the race traverses the challenging terrain of northern Wisconsin, from Cable to Hayward. Inspired by a historic Norwegian race of the same name, the Birkie draws thousands of skiers worldwide, making it a bucket-list race for Nordic skiing enthusiasts. The event includes a full festival weekend with additional races, events, and community celebrations.- Kortelopet
Held during Birkie Week, the Kortelopet is a 29K race that provides skiers a shorter, yet still challenging, distance. Starting near Cable and finishing in Hayward, the “Korte” is ideal for intermediate skiers or those not yet ready for the full Birkie course. This race shares the same supportive, spirited atmosphere and draws a large crowd of skiers, from competitive racers to recreational participants. - Prince Haakon
Named after the legendary Norwegian prince, the Prince Haakon is a 15K ski race designed for beginners, families, and those new to Nordic skiing. Taking place on portions of the Birkie Trail, this race provides an accessible and enjoyable entry point into the world of cross-country skiing, capturing the thrill of the larger Birkie events in a more relaxed format.
