About This Event

The event for 2027 has not been confirmed yet… For Nordic skiing enthusiasts, the Seeley Hills Classic 2027 is a journey into the heart of the Northwoods’ rich skiing heritage. Held annually on the renowned Birkebeiner Trail, this 42-kilometer classic ski race is a testament to the enduring spirit of cross-country skiing in Wisconsin. The race is organized by the Seeley Ski Club in partnership with the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation. As the second-largest cross-country ski event on the Birkie Trail, this event offers skiers the chance to experience one of the region’s most storied trails, while also contributing to a cause that sustains the sport in the area. For those looking to qualify for the American Birkebeiner, this race serves as an official qualifying race as part of the Birkebeiner Qualifier Series, giving all competitors a challenging yet rewarding path to earn a coveted Birkie wave placement. It is also a part of the prestigious Worldloppet Series. Strambecco rates the Seeley Hills Classic 2027 as one of the Best Nordic Ski Races in the Midwest, and takes place annually in Seeley, Wisconsin.

Event & Course Info

The Seeley Hills Classic is more than just a race, it’s a fundraiser that supports the Seeley Ski Club, a group dedicated to nurturing the skiing community for decades. The club’s efforts have been instrumental in developing local ski facilities, including the lighting of the Birkie Ski Trail at the 00 Trailhead and the maintenance of 15 kilometers of the Sawyer County Ski Trail. By partnering with the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation, the Seeley Ski Club ensures that the legacy of Northwoods skiing remains vibrant and accessible.

There are two options in the Seeley Hills Classic: a challenging 42-kilometer race and a shorter 22-kilometer route, both starting and finishing at the Hwy OO Trailhead in the Kortelopet Stadium. The race field is limited to ensure a quality experience for all participants, with registration filling up quickly each year. Race day logistics are carefully planned to enhance the skier experience. The event kicks off early, with start times designed to maximize daylight and give skiers ample time to complete the course. Completion cutoff times are enforced to ensure the safety of all participants, particularly in the challenging 42K race. The race features generous support for participants, with aid stations offering water and other products but Skiers are encouraged to bring their own hydration vessels to reduce waste and support the race’s green initiatives.

After crossing the finish line, skiers can look forward to awards and celebrations that honor the top finishers and celebrate the spirit of the Seeley Hills Classic. This is a celebration of a storied skiing tradition, a challenge for every participant, and a vital fundraiser that keeps the spirit of Nordic skiing alive in the Northwoods. Whether you’re racing for a top spot or simply enjoying the journey through the winter woods, the Seeley Hills Classic promises an unforgettable experience.
