GFNY Alps Vaujany 2026
About This Event
Set in the mountain village of Vaujany in the French Alps, this GFNY event offers two distinctly different challenges against a backdrop of towering peaks and alpine valleys.
The long course delivers a serious test with 4,000 meters of climbing over 118 kilometers. After a controlled 5-kilometer descent from Vaujany, riders tackle the legendary 25-kilometer ascent of Col de la Croix de Fer, climbing through forest before passing Lac de Grand’Maison en route to the summit at 2,067 meters. Following a descent and brief flat section in the Maurienne valley, the route continues up Col du Glandon before the final climb back to Vaujany.
The medium route covers 43 kilometers with 1,800 meters of climbing, but the shorter distance doesn’t mean easier riding. After the initial descent, riders face an immediate 8% average gradient on Col de la Croix de Fer, with maximum pitches hitting 14% and one brutal section exceeding 20%. The turnaround point at Lac de Grand’Maison leads to a 16-kilometer descent before the steady 8.6% climb back to Vaujany.
Only long course finishers receive category rankings and podium recognition, with the top 10% in each age group qualifying for front corral starts at other GFNY events worldwide. Medium course riders receive finishing times but no competitive rankings.
The mass start format creates an electric atmosphere as hundreds of cyclists begin together. Aid stations provide refueling opportunities throughout the course, while closed roads and police-controlled traffic ensure safety without stopping.
Beyond the competitive element, the event celebrates cycling community, drawing international participants who share their passion against one of cycling’s most scenic backdrops. The finish line atmosphere combines accomplishment with Alpine celebration.
