Gigante de Piedra 2026
About This Event
This 200-kilometer mountain bike ultramarathon stands as one of Europe’s most formidable endurance challenges, delivering 6,500 meters of elevation gain across the rugged terrain of Spain’s Valencian Community. The course begins in Alcora and winds through multiple municipalities including Lucena del Cid, Castillo de Villamalefa, and Zucaina, combining ancient historical paths with demanding mountain trails.
What sets this event apart is its distinction as the first race outside the United States to join the prestigious National Ultra Endurance Epic Series. Since its establishment in 2013, the race has built a reputation for uncompromising difficulty and meticulous organization that attracts serious ultra-endurance athletes from across Europe and beyond.
Riders face a strict 17-hour cutoff with enforced checkpoint times throughout the course. The event provides comprehensive support through 12 strategically placed aid stations, medical assistance, and mechanical support. Categories include Elite, Master divisions for ages 30, 40, and 50+, Women, Teams, and Relays, all requiring participants to be at least 18 years old.
The course traverses diverse terrain through the Sierra de Espadán and Penyagolosa natural parks, offering stunning landscapes alongside the physical challenge. Post-race amenities include massage services and bike cleaning facilities, reflecting the event’s attention to rider experience.
Veterans describe it as a race that tests both physical endurance and mental resilience, demanding careful pacing and strategic nutrition management. The combination of technical terrain, significant elevation, and time pressure creates an experience that pushes even experienced ultra-distance riders to their limits.
