Ukiah-Mendo Gravel Epic 2026
About This Event
Nestled in the heart of Mendocino County, the Ukiah-Mendo Gravel Epic offers gravel cyclists access to private logging roads and scenic byways typically closed to the public. Part of the Grasshopper Adventure Series and serving as the NCNCA Gravel District Championship, this April event has earned its place in the international Gravel Earth Series.
The signature Mero Mero route covers 75 miles with 8,423 feet of climbing, starting from downtown Ukiah’s Todd Grove Park. Riders face a neutral rollout to Masonite Road before tackling the steep climb up Comptche-Ukiah Road to Low Gap. The course weaves through redwood, fir, and oak forests on a mix of gravel, chunky pavement, and packed dirt. A smoother pavement section between miles 33-50 provides brief relief before the final challenging stretches. Aid stations at miles 15.8, 32, and 57 keep riders supported throughout.
The 40-mile Mediano course delivers 3,200 feet of climbing, following the same initial 22 miles as the long course before turning onto Low Gap Road. The 24-mile Chiquito option still packs a punch with 2,291 feet of elevation gain.
Cash prizes reward the top three finishers in male, female, and non-binary categories across all age groups on the long course, with recognition for top Mediano finishers as well. The post-race celebration at Todd Grove Park features lunch, beer, activities, and a bike raffle, creating a festive end to the challenging day in Northern California’s rugged terrain.
