Virginia’s Blue Ridge Gran Fondo showcases the scenic beauty of Botetourt County through three distinctive routes, each designed to highlight the region’s rolling terrain, open farmland, forested mountains, and James River views. As a partner event in the Gran Fondo National Series, participants in the Mountain Ride can earn points toward national series standings in their age group, while all routes feature chip-timed segments and age group awards.

The Mountain Ride covers 75 miles with over 6,400 feet of elevation gain across three timed segments. The signature “Caldwell Mountain” climb leads riders through tranquil back roads before a fast descent into Craig County. The route weaves through Oriskany and Eagle Rock alongside picturesque Craig Creek views, with additional timed segments before Buchanan and a finish along the scenic Bike 76 route back to Fincastle.

The River Ride spans 43 miles with 2,900 feet of climbing, featuring three timed segments including the Timber Ridge ascent. Riders head north toward Eagle Rock before looping back over Timber Ridge and continuing through smooth, rolling terrain to the Buchanan aid station, then following the Bike 76 route through Troutville.

The Valley Ride offers a 33-mile introduction to local roads with 1,800 feet of elevation and two timed segments. This route traverses scenic roads toward the James River with a well-placed aid station in Buchanan breaking up the journey.

Registration includes Virginia’s Blue Ridge Gran Fondo cycling socks, post-ride meal, well-stocked aid stations, chip timing, and finisher awards. The event captures the welcoming community spirit of Botetourt County’s small towns while delivering the European-style gran fondo experience that defines the national series.
