Strambecco rates the Best Road Cycling Events Mid-Atlantic 2025 based on various factors, including reputation, route quality, location, rider feedback, and the event’s or race’s overall uniqueness. Spanning New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland, the Mid-Atlantic terrain features of Strambecco’s best list often include rolling hills and countryside routes marked with short, punchy climbs. As the Appalachian mountains are a dominant feature in the region, there is generally a lot of climbing. Also, you can expect warm and humid conditions depending on the time of year.
The most notable events on Strambecco’s list of Best Road Cycling Events Mid-Atlantic 2025 are events that are part of the Gran Fondo National Series, the largest and most competitive series of Gran Fondo cycling events in the United States. The series was the first to implement timed-segment racing into US gran fondo events, and since 2012 has crowned Gran Fondo National Champions in a variety of age/gender categories. In 2020, the series partnered with USA Cycling to bring a one-day Gran Fondo National Championship into the portfolio of official USA Cycling National Championship events. GFNS Mid-Atlantic events include Highlands Gran Fondo and the Gran Fondo National Championship, which is held in September at Gran Fondo, Maryland. Note that Gran Fondo Maryland is open to all rider types.
Another noteworthy event is Gran Fondo New York, one of the largest and most popular gran fondos nationwide. The event’s stunning route starts on the George Washington Bridge, which connects Manhattan and New Jersey. GFNY is the culminating event in the GFNY Global Series, spanning 20+ international events. The mid-Atlantic region hosts two additional GFNY Series Events: GFNY Maryland and the inaugural GFNY Pennsylvania York.
Strambecco does not list every event. We strive to identify and review events that are special and noteworthy.
