Gran Fondo Milano-San Remo 2026
About This Event
Born in 1970, this is Italy’s most prestigious amateur cycling event, following the exact route of the professional Milan-San Remo Monument race. The 296-kilometer course from Milan to the Ligurian coast attracts over 2,000 cyclists annually from across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Brazil, the United States, and Canada.
The route traverses three regions, starting in Milan and heading south through Lombardy’s countryside before crossing into Piedmont and finishing along Liguria’s stunning coastline in Sanremo. Cyclists face the same legendary climbs that define the professional race: the grinding Passo del Turchino, followed by the decisive final climbs of Cipressa and Poggio that separate contenders from the field.
What sets this gran fondo apart is riding the actual roads where cycling legends have battled for over a century. The challenging terrain includes long, sustained climbs and technical descents, demanding both endurance and bike handling skills. The Turchino pass serves as the main mountain barrier, while the Cipressa and Poggio climbs in the final 30 kilometers mirror the tactical finale of the professional Monument.
The event captures the essence of Italian cycling culture, winding through picturesque towns and scenic countryside before the dramatic coastal finish. Despite the serious challenge—this isn’t a ride for casual cyclists—the atmosphere celebrates the sport’s heritage and Italy’s cycling passion. The international field creates a unique energy as riders from different continents tackle one of cycling’s most storied routes together.
