Gran Fondo Hincapie – Chattanooga 2026
About This Event
Founded by 16-time Tour de France finisher George Hincapie, this Tennessee gran fondo delivers three distinct challenges from the heart of Chattanooga. What sets it apart is the dramatic terrain variety and the celebration atmosphere that extends beyond race day into a multi-day cycling festival.
The flagship Gran route covers 81 miles with 5,612 feet of climbing, beginning with nine flat miles along the Tennessee River before hitting the first test: a sustained 5.5-mile climb at 5% grade near Suck Creek. After a fast 4.1-mile descent, riders traverse 16 miles of flat Sequatchie Valley roads leading to the day’s crux—a brutal 1.9-mile ascent up Sequatchie Mountain averaging 10.9%. The final 21 miles reward survivors with panoramic views of the Chattanooga skyline.
The 55-mile Medio option follows the same route but splits off at mile 29.8, skipping the mountain’s steepest sections while still delivering 4,100 feet of elevation gain. The 10-mile Piccolo route focuses on the Pineville Road climb, perfect for newer riders wanting a taste of the challenge.
All routes feature well-stocked rest stops with live music and comprehensive SAG support. Riders start together from Miller Park before splitting onto their chosen routes, creating an inclusive atmosphere where weekend warriors ride alongside cycling celebrities and pros.
The post-ride festival transforms the finish into a community celebration with free food, beverages, and live entertainment. George Hincapie personally maps and tests each route, ensuring the courses showcase the region’s scenic beauty while providing legitimate challenges for serious cyclists.
